Store Policies – Do They Matter?

There are a lot of couponers that ignore store policies — I was one of those too. But, if you’re a couponer store policies are very important. These guide you on how many coupons you can use, the types of coupons accepted and how overages are applied. We are going to discuss a few basics here today, but also I’ll link you to a few popular stores and their policies so that you can print and keep them nearby.

What are Store Policies?

Store policies are written by the store (or their corporate office). These contain information about sales, code of conduct and most importantly, coupon usage. A store policy will specify how many like coupons they accept (yes a store can limit you even if the manufacturer coupon does not), how an overage is applied (sometimes you lose the overage), if you can use two coupons on B1G1 free sales, etc.

What if My Store’s Coupon Policy Isn’t Online?

Not all stores post their store coupon policy, but just because it’s not online doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Before you go to the store with a stack of coupons, contact the store’s manager and ask some basic questions to see how your coupons are used and how the store handles couponers. Some questions to ask include:

  1. What kind of coupons do you accept?
  2. Can I use store and manufacturer coupons on the same item?
  3. How do you handle overages?
  4. Do you match competitor prices or accept competitor coupons?
  5. Can I use two coupons on a B1G1 free deal?
  6. Am I limited on how many coupons I can use in a singe transaction?

Most stores have some sort of store coupon policy online. Below you’ll find a list of the stores that do have them online. Don’t see your store? Contact the store manager. Don’t forget to get the manager’s name, date/time you spoke to him or her, etc. so that you have proof you spoke to someone.
