Recipe: Homemade Taco Seasoning

homemade-taco-seasoningWhile you can probably snag a bag of taco seasoning mix for free, why add the preservatives and endless amount of sodium into your diet when you can make it at home?! Taco seasoning isn’t a mystery. In fact, it contains very basic spices — most of which you probably already have in your spice cabinet. Make this in a large batch and store it in an airtight container. Then, just add a tablespoon (or two) to your ground beef or shredded chicken and you have gourmet, frugal tacos.

Homemade Taco Seasoning

  • 1/4 c. onion powder
  • 2 T. chili powder
  • 2 t. paprika
  • 2 t. crushed red pepper
  • 1 t. dried oregano
  • 1 T. salt (not kosher)
  • 1/4 t. black pepper
  • 2 T. cornstarch
  • 1 T. garlic powder
  • 1 t. ground cumin

You’ll probably use 2 tablespoons per pound of meat.
